Choosing an engagement ring setting

Solitaire, halo, hidden halo, three stone or pavé: how each one changes the look of the diamond.

Choosing an engagement ring setting

The setting is the frame around your diamond. It decides how the stone sits, how large it looks and how the ring wears every day. These are the styles couples ask us about most.

Solitaire

One diamond on a plain band. Nothing competes with the stone, it is easy to wear, and a wedding band sits neatly beside it. It is the classic for a reason.

Halo

A ring of small diamonds around the centre stone. It makes the centre look larger and adds sparkle from every angle.

Hidden halo

The small diamonds sit under the centre stone, seen from the side rather than from above. From the top it looks like a solitaire; from the side there is a secret line of light.

Three stone

A centre diamond with a smaller stone on each side. It gives a wider look across the finger, and many couples choose it for its meaning: past, present and future.

Pavé

Small diamonds set close together along the band, so the ring sparkles all the way round. It pairs well with a solitaire, halo or hidden halo head.

Metal

Yellow, white and rose gold, and platinum, all suit a white diamond. Near-colourless stones look especially bright in yellow or rose gold. White gold is plated with rhodium to keep it bright white, and a care plan includes re-plating.
